Look at the Cross Before You Cross
Look at the Cross before you cross... How many times have we been at a crossroads in our lives? Thinking back to those moments, how often did we turn to the Cross—our Heavenly Father—before making life-altering decisions, whether big or small?
Look at the Cross before you cross...
This reminds me of when the Israelites crossed the Jordan River (Joshua 3:14-17). God had promised them the Promised Land, but in order to step into their destiny, they had to cross an obstacle—the Jordan River. Before taking any action, God had a conversation with Joshua, instructing him to follow everything that Moses had commanded and to continually read the Book of Instructions (Joshua 1:7-8).
Before going further, it’s important to understand that Joshua was already chosen to lead the Israelites. Moses knew his time on earth was coming to an end, and with that came the responsibility of passing on leadership. When you are chosen by the Lord, there is a level of responsibility that you carry. However, it is up to you whether you will listen or not.

Joshua could have chosen to do things his own way, potentially resulting in great loss for everyone. Instead, he chose to look at the Cross before crossing the Jordan River. Because of his obedience, God performed a miraculous miracle, parting the Jordan just as He did with the Red Sea, allowing the Israelites to walk into their Promised Land.
Key Lessons from Crossing the Jordan River
There are so many things to take note of before, during, and after the crossing of the Jordan River.
- Before the crossing, God told Joshua that Moses had died and that he was now chosen to lead.
- Joshua could have refused the calling, but instead, he embraced his God-given purpose.
- Listening to the Lord and following the instructions given made the crossing easier.
- How many times could we have avoided heartbreak, bad business deals, betrayal, or failure if we had just listened to God’s direction the first time?
- Before crossing, Joshua sent two spies ahead to scope out the land.
- Even when God has promised something, we must still prepare and claim what rightfully belongs to us.
- The Jordan River was overflowing due to the harvest season.
- Imagine being right at the edge of your breakthrough—a multimillion-dollar contract, closing on your dream home, securing a warehouse lease, or launching a new business venture—and then it seems to come to a complete halt. At that moment, it may seem impossible, but God always makes a way.
- The Lord gave Joshua specific instructions:
"Tell the priests who carry the Ark of the Covenant: ‘When you reach the banks of the Jordan River, take a few steps into the river and stop there.’” (Joshua 3:8)
- The difference between deadly destruction and divine destiny is in the details. Are you willing to follow the Lord’s instructions?

Because Joshua followed God’s divine instructions, the Jordan River parted, and the Israelites walked across on dry land into their Promised Land.
Final Thoughts
It is crucial to look at the Cross—our Father—before stepping into situations that could be avoided. The Lord is always ready to guide and direct us, but we must be willing to seek Him first. He should never be our last resort; rather, He must be the first we turn to in any decision.
Too often, we run to people, money, or other comforts before consulting God, unknowingly creating idols in our lives.
It is time to dismantle demonic covenants, destroy generational curses and cross into our promise land!
The Lord is saying:
Look at the Cross before you cross!
